* 상대방이 한번 만나서 얘기 좀 했으면 좋겠다는 이야기를 했을 때 언제든지 찾아와도 괜찮다라는 대답을 할 때 사용하는 표현...
Mariah : I'd like to have a meeting with you. 말씀 좀 나눌 수 있으면 좋겠네요.
Tim : Of course. My door is always open. 물론이죠. 언제든 환영입니다.
Mariah : Can we talk at 7 o'clock this evening? 오늘 저녁 7시쯤 괜찮을까요?
Tim : That sounds perfect to me. 딱 좋습니다.
What are you up to?
* up to 는 많은 의미가 있지만 구어체에서 [나쁜 짓에 손을 대고]라는 의미가 있다...
* doing something secret or something that you should not be doing.
Tim : I'm going to take a day off tomorrow? 난 내일 하루 휴가를 낼거야.
Kate : What are you up to? 대체 무슨 꿍꿍이야?
Tim : Hey, what are you up to? Where'd you get all those knobs?
이봐, 무슨 짓을 하려는 거야? 그 손잡이들은 전부 어디서 난거야?
Kid : Nothing. We're just playing. We're not doing anything wrong.
아무것도 아니에요. 그냥 놀고 있는 거에요. 뭐 나쁜 짓 하는 거 아니에요.
Tim : What have you been up to lately? 요즘 무슨 일을 하고 있니?
Mariah : The same old thing - a lot of work as usual. 늘 같죠. 보통 때처럼 일이 많아요.
Ross : What's Kate been up to these days? 케이트는 요즘 뭐하고 지내냐?
Tim : I heard that she's going to go back to school next fall.
다음 가을학기에 복학한다고 들었어.
eg) He is up to something[no good]. 그는 어떤 [좋지 않은] 일을 꾀하고 있다.
eg) The children are very quiet. I wonder what they're up to.
아이들이 아주 조용한데. 무슨 일을 꿰하고 있는지 궁금하네.
Don't be a couch potato
* couch potato 에서 couch는 [소파], potato는 [감자칩]을 말하므로 이 단어는 [(소파에 앉아) 감자칩 먹으면서 TV만 보는 사람]이라는 의미...
* couch potato = someone who spend a lot of time sitting and watching television.
Tim : Honey! Don't be a couch potato. 여보! TV 좀 그만 봐요!
Kate : There you go again! 또 잔소리 시작이군
Ross : What do you do on weekends? 주말에 뭐 하니?
Tim : Usually I stay home. I'm kind of homebody. 주로 집에 있어. 집에 있는 걸 좋아하거든.
Ross : What do you do to kill time at home? 집에서 어떻게 시간을 보내는데?
Tim : Most of the time I spend my weekends watching TV. How about you?
주로 TV를 보면서 주말을 보내지. 너는 어떻게 보내는데?
Ross : Me, too. I'm one of those couch potatoes.
나도 마찬가지야. TV를 보면서 시간을 보내는 사람들 중 하나지.
Tim : What do you watch on TV? 뭘 보는데?
Ross : I watch sports like MLB and soccer. I seldom watch other programs.
메이저리그나 축구 같은 스포츠를 봐. 다른 프로는 거의 안 보거든.
eg) You can call me one of those couch potatoes. 나를 TV광이라고 불러도 좋아.
eg) My brother is a couch potato. He spend all his time watching TV.
우리 형은 텔레비전광이야. 시간만 나면 텔레비전을 보고 있어.
Can I have everybody's attention, please?
* 파티나 연설 및 발표 등에서 사람들의 집중을 필요로 할 때 쓰는 표현...
* used in a formal situation when you want people to listen to you.
* keep/hold one's attention = make someone continue to be interested in something
* pay attention = to carefully listen to or watch something that is happening.
* thank you for your attention 연설이나 발표를 마칠 때 사용하는 표현
Kate : How did your presentation go? 발표는 어땠어?
Tim : Awesome! I was able to keep my audience's attention.
훌륭했지! 청중들의 주목을 끌 수 있었거든.
Kate : That's great. So I suppose you are in a great mood.
대단하네. 그래서 기분이 좋은거군.
eg) Don't pay attention to her. She's always saying stupid things.
그녀에게 신경 쓰지 마. 그녀는 항상 멍청한 소리만 해대거든.
eg) Most young people don't pay attention to what their parents say.
대부분의 젊은 사람들은 부모가 하는 말에 귀를 기울이지 않는다.
My nose is stuffed up
* stuffed-up은 [코가 막혔다]라는 의미로 하나의 형용사로 사용된다.
* unable to breathe properly through your nose because you have a cold.
* stuffy = does not have enough fresh air in a room or building.
Tim : What's wrong with your voice? 목소리가 왜 그래?
Ross : I have the flu. My nose is stuffed up. 감기가 걸려서 그래. 코가 꽉 막혔거든.
eg) My head and neck hurt, and my nose is stuffy. I must be under the weather.
머리와 목이 아프고 코가 막히네. 몸이 좋지 않은 것 같아.
eg) It's getting stuffy in here. Do you mind if I open the window?
실내가 점점 답답해지는데, 창문 좀 열어도 될까요?
eg) Stop picking your nose. 콧구멍 좀 후비지마.
eg) I have a fever and a runny nose. 열이 나고 콧물이 나와.
