* 영어에도 이런 표현이 있다니 재밌네요.. ㅋㅋ [쌤통이다][그래도 싸다]
* it 을 생략하고 Serves you right 라고도 합니다...
* it serves somebody right = (spoken) used to say that you think someone deserves it if something unpleasant happens to them, because they have been stupid or unkind
Tim : Mariah just got divorced. She found out that her husband was not rich she thought he was.
마리아가 이혼했어. 그녀의 남편이 생각했던 대로 부자가 아니었다고 하더군.
Ross : Serve her right! She said she married him for money, not for love.
꼴 좋다! 그녀는 사랑이 아니라 돈 때문에 그와 결혼한다더니.
Ross : Ouch! She pinched me! 아야! 그 여자가 날 꼬집었어.
Tim : Serves you right, teasing her like that. 그녀를 그렇게 못살게 굴더니 꼴 좋다.
eg) It serves him right to receive that punishment. 그가 벌을 받는 것은 당연한 일이다.
It's time to go on a diet
Tim : You look slimmer than the last time. Have you lost weight?
지난번보다 더 야위어 보이네. 살 뺐니?
Kate : Yeah, I'm on a diet. 응, 다이어트 중이야.
Kate : Why don't you eat galbee? 왜 갈비 먹질 않니?
Karen : I can't. I'm on a diet. 먹을 수 없어요. 다이어트 중이거든요.
Kate : Are you? I dieted for a while myself, but I gave up.
그래? 나도 한동안 다이어트를 했었는데, 포기했어.
Tim : How's your diet coming along? 다이어트는 어떻게 되어가고 있어?
Kate : Not so good. 좋지 않아.
eg) I can't put these pants on anymore. It's time to go on a diet.
이 바지가 더이상 안 맞아. 다이어트를 해야겠어.
eg) You've put on a lot weight this winter. Why don't you go on a diet?
너 이번 겨울에 살이 많이 쪘네. 다이어트하지 그래?
eg) You're eating like a bird. Are you on a diet? 너 정말 조금 먹는다. 다이어트 하니?
eg) I gained a lot of weight lately. I'll go on a diet. 요즘 살이 너무 쪄서 다이어트 좀 해야겠어.

Tim : Would you like something for desert? 디저트로 뭐 좀 줄까?
Kate : I'll pass on desert, thanks. I'm trying to watch my weight.
고마운데, 난 안 먹을래요. 다이어트에 신경쓰고 있거든요.
Mariah : I'll just take it black, thanks. 그냥 블랙으로 주세요. 고마워요.
Ross : No cream and sugar? What's up? 설탕, 크림은 빼고요? 갑자기 무슨 일이에요?
Mariah : Oh, nothing. I'm just watching my weight, that's all.
아무 것도 아니에요. 몸무게를 신경 쓰고 있거든요.
Tim : Did you feel like some ice-cream cake? 아이스크림 케이크 좀 먹을래?
Kate : No, I'll pass. I should watch my weight. 아니, 안 먹을래. 체중 조절을 해야 하거든.
Tim : I'm afraid you're getting overweight. 너 점점 살이 찌는 것 같아.
Kate : I know. 나도 알아.
Tim : Do you watch what you eat? 먹는 것 좀 조절하니?
Kate : I try to, but it's easier said than done. 노력은 하고 있는데, 그게 말처럼 쉬워야 말이지.

Tim : I got a new job and within a month the company went bankrupt.
새 직업을 구했는데 한달도 못가서 부도났어.
Ross : That's life!. What are you going to do now? 인생은 그런거야. 이젠 뭘 할거야?
Ross : I was so positive that I could get this job, but I was turned down.
이번 직장은 된 걸로 알았는데 떨어졌어.
Tim : That's life. 그게 인생이야.
Kate : One did all the work, but the other got all the credit.
일은 누가 다하고, 칭찬은 다른 사람이 받고...
Ross : That's the way the cookie crumbles. 세상은 그런거야.
Mariah : I'm not qualified for that job because I'm a woman? That's absurd.
내가 여자라서 그 일을 못한다고? 말도 안돼.
Ross : I agree with you. but that's just the way it is.
네 말이 맞아. 하지만 세상이 그런 걸 어쩌겠니.

Tim : Oh, that's way beyond my budget! My company wouldn't pay for it.
제 경비로는 안되겠네요. 회사가 돈을 지불해 주지 않을 거에요.
* 위 대화에서 presidential suite는 [호텔 귀빈실]을 뜻하며, way는 강조 부사로서 [훨씬]이라는 의미...
eg) This is out of my price range. 저에게는 너무 비쌉니다.
eg) The price of the house is beyond our range. 그 집은 저에게는 너무 비쌉니다.
