1. 국토와 인구
   ♣ Have you ever studied about Korea and its people at your school?
      ▶ 학교에서 한국에 대해 배우신 적이 있습니까?
   ♣ Korea is a peninsular country lying in the Far East of Asia.
      ▶ 한국은 아시아의 동쪽 끝에 위치한 반도 국가입니다.
   ♣ Korea in overall size is approximately equivalent to Great Britain or the state of        New York in the America.
      ▶ 한국의 크기는 영구이나 미국의 뉴욕 주와 비슷합니다.
   ♣ Korea is a mountainous land and surrounded by sea on three sides and it covers a area
       of about 220 thousand square kilometers.
      ▶ 한국은 산이 많고 삼면이 바다이며 넓이는 약 22만 평방 Km입니다.
   ♣ As you know, there are two Koreas in the Korean Peninsula.
      ▶ 아시다시피 한반도에는 2개의 한국이 있습니다.
   ♣ At the end of World War Ⅱ, Korea was divided into North and South.
      ▶ 세계 2차대전이 끝남과 동시에 한국은 남북으로 갈라졌습니다.
   ♣ The population of South Korea is over 44 million now.

   ♣ Capital of Korea, Seoul has a population of twelve million and numerous        sky-scrapers and graceful architecture of its ancient palaces.

2. 한국의 역사 및 특징
   ♣ Korea is a single-raced nation. While Korean belong to the Mongolian race, they        maintained a distinctive language, culture, customs.
      ▶ 한국은 단일민족국가입니다. 한국인은 몽고족에 속하지만 언어, 문화, 풍습 등에          있어서 그들과는 구별됩니다.
   ♣ Korea has a long history of 5,000 years. So Korea is a fascinating blend of old        and new.
      ▶ 한국은 5,000년의 긴 역사를 갖고 있습니다. 그래서 한국에는 옛것과 새것이 잘 조        화되어 있습니다.
   ♣ Korea is called "The Land of Morning Calm".
      ▶ 한국은 조용한 아침의 나라라 불립니다.
   ♣ The Korean language is thought to be a member of the Ural-Altai family.
      ▶ 한국어는 한글이며 우랄 알타이어에 속합니다.
   ♣ Korea is very very fortunate in that the four season of spring, summer, fall and        winter are very distinct.
      ▶ 한국에는 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울의 뚜렷한 4계절이 있습니다.
   ♣ Summer is relatively hot and humid, with the main rainfall occurring during        monsoon season. Winter is cold and dry, with occasional snow.
      ▶ 여름에는 덥고 습하며 장마철에는 많은 비가 내립니다. 겨울에는 춥고 건조하며         가끔씩 눈이 내립니다.
   ♣ Some foreigners have a wrong notion that Korean culture is originated from        Japan but that`s not true. The reverse is the case.
      ▶ 일부 외국인들은 한국의 문화가 일본에서 기원했다는 잘못된 생각을 갖고 있습니           다. 그러나 그것은 사실이 아닙니다. 그 반대입니다.
   ♣ Taekwondo is a martial art of self-defense originating in Korea and spreading        rapidly all over the world.
      ▶ 태권도는 한국에서 태어난 자기 방어를 위한 무술입니다. 전세계에 급속도로 퍼지           고 있습니다.

3. 한국의 음식
   ♣ Korea has many interesting and unique dishes. Kimchi is also an indispensable food
       for Koreans throughout the four season, Kimchi is the most famous Korean food.
      ▶ 한국에는 흥미 있고 독특한 음식이 많이 있습니다. 김치는 4계절을 통해서 한국인           에게 없어서는 안될 음식입니다. 김치는 한국 음식중 가장 유명한 음식입니다.
   ♣ In the Fall, Koreans prepare enough Kimchi to last through the winter, when there are
       no fresh vegetable.
      ▶ 한국 사람들은 신선한 야채를 구할 수 없는 겨울에 대비해서 늦가을에 김장을 담급니다.
   ♣ Korean Ginseng is exported to every corner of the world, and is noted for        superior health food.
      ▶ 한국의 인삼은 전세계에 수출되고 있으며 우수한 건강 식품으로 정평이 나 있습니다.
   ♣ Boiled rice is the staple of Korean diet.
      ▶ 밥은 한국인의 주식입니다.
   ♣ Soup must be served at any Korean meal. Materials commonly used for soup        include meat, vegetable, fish, seaweed.
      ▶ 한국인은 식사할 때 항상 국을 먹습니다. 보통 국은 고기, 야채, 생선, 미역 등으로           만듭니다.
   ♣ Pulgogi is the one of the most popular dished in Korea and one which Westerners        find very pleasing. It is generally called Korean barbecue.
      ▶ 불고기는 한국의 대표적인 음식중에 하나이며 특히 서양인들이 좋아하는 한국음식           입니다. 보통 한국식 바비큐라 합니다.
   ♣ Shinsollo is a delicious mixture of meat, fish and vegetable which are simmered in beef
       broth over a charcoal brazier at the table.
      ▶ 신선로는 고기, 생선, 야채, 고기국물에 등을 섞어 만든 음식으로 식탁에서 직접            끓이면서 먹는 음식입니다.

4. 한국의 명절
   ♣ We observe New Year`s Day by lunar calendar. This day is the greatest holiday in
       Korea. We call this day "Seol".
      ▶ 한국에서는 설을 음력으로 쇱니다. 이날이 한국에서는 최대의 명절입니다. 우리는           이날을 설날이 라 합니다.
   ♣ We dress up in our best clothes and visit relatives and neighbors to pay respects.
      ▶ 설에는 가장 좋은 옷을 입고 친척이나 이웃 어른들께 새해 인사를 다닙니다.
   ♣ On the morning of "Seol" we make "new year`s bow" to the elder members wishing their
       best health and longevity.
      ▶ 설날 아침에는 나이순으로 집안의 어른들께 건강과 장수를 비는 뜻으로 세배를 합니다.
   ♣ August 15 by lunar calendar is called "Chusok", one of the largest holidays in        Korea. It is the Korea version of Thanksgiving Day.
      ▶ 음력 8월 15일은 한국의 큰 명절인 추석입니다. 서양의 추수감사절에 해당하는 날           입니다.
   ♣ At "Chusok", we pay a visit to our ancestral graves and observe a special       ceremony to show them our homage.
      ▶ 추석에는 조상의 묘를 찾아서 성묘를 하고 조상을 위해서 차례를 지냅니다.
   ♣ We make a special food called "Songpyon". It is a rice cake with mashed beans,        chestnut or sesame seed stuffed in it.
      ▶ 추석에는 송편이라는 특별한 음식을 만듭니다. 송편은 팥, 밤, 참깨 등을 넣어 만           든 쌀 떡입니다.
   ♣ August 15th is an Independence Day, one of the national holidays. Korea became        a sovereign state from Japanese colonial occupation.
      ▶ 8월 15일은 국경일 중에 하나인 광복절입니다. 한국은 1945년 일제식민지에서 벗어나          독립 국가가 되었습니다.
