Letters from Yellowstone Park

June 21st, 1996

Dear Min-ho,

How are you doing, Min-ho? I hope everything goes well with you.

As I told you, my family is now visiting Yellowstone Park. We drove along winking roads for hundreds of miles through beautiful scenery and finally arrived here this afternoon.

Yellowstone Park is one of the largest and best-known parks in the world. It is larger than Delaware, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia all put together.

It is sunny summer day, but it is still cool here. Far in the distance we can see high mountains still covered with snow. Everything is fresh and clean. The trees look greener against the clear blue sky. The crystal-clear Yellowstone Lake is 320 feet deep.

I was excited to see the bison and deer in the field. I had never been so close to wildlife in nature before. Somehow I felt as if I were out of this world. We plan to set up a tent to enjoy being closer to nature.

That's about it for today. I am visiting Canyon Village tomorrow. Bye!

민호야, 잘 있었니? 모든 게 잘 되고 있기를 바래.

내가 말했듯이 우리 가족은 지금 옐로스톤 공원을 방문하고 있어. 우리는 아름다운 경치를 보며 수백 마일이나 되는 굽은 길을 차로 달려서 결국 오늘 오후에 이곳에 도착했어.

옐로스톤 공원은 세계에서 가장 크고 잘 알려진 공원중 하나야. 이곳은 델러웨어 주, 로드 아일런드 주, 컬럼비아 특별구를 모두 합친 것보다 커.

오늘은 화창한 여름날인데, 여기는 아직도 서늘해, 멀리는 아직도 눈에 덮인 높은 산이 보여. 모든 것이 신선하고 깨끗해. 나무들은 맑고 푸른 하늘을 배경으로 더욱 푸르게 보여. 수정같이 맑은 옐로스톤 호수의 깊이는 320피트야.

나는 들에서 들소와 사슴을 보니 흥분되었어. 자연에서 야생동물에게 이렇게 가까이 가본적이 없었거든. 어쩐지 별천지에 와 있는 듯한 느낌이었어. 우리는 하룻밤 동안 자연을 좀 더 가까이에서 만끽하기 위해 텐트를 친 작정이야.

오늘 이야기는 이 정도야. 나는 내일 캐니언 빌리지에 가 볼거야. 그럼 안녕.
