제 1 장 명 사(Noun)
명사 : 생물이나 무생물의 이름을 나타내는 말
1. 명사의 종류
+- 보통명사(같은 종류의 동물 사물에 두루 쓰이는 명사로, 대부분 일정한 모습을
+---가산명사 | 가지고 있기 때문에 셀 수 있다(ex- boy, girl, flower, city, car)
명사 | (복수형 +- 집합명사(사람 또는 사물의 집합체를 나타내는 것으로 셀 수 있다.

| +- 고유명사(인명 지명이나 특정한 사물의 이름으로 쓰이는 명사로서, 셀 수 없
| | 다. 고유명사는 대문자로 쓰기 시작하며, 원칙적으로 복수로 할 수 없
| | 고, 관사를 붙이지 않는다. 다만 건물명 하천명 산맥 반도 신문 잡지

■ 명사의 주의할 용법
① 보통명사의 추상명사화- [the + 보통명사]가 추상명사
The pen is mightier than the sword.
② 고유명사의 보통명사화- 부정관사나 수사가 붙고 복수형이 가능
He is a Mr. Brown.
I wish to become a Newton.
③ 물질명사의 보통명사화- 물질명사의 뜻이 변하여 그 물질의 종류 제품 등을 나타내는 경우로서,
부정관사가 붙고 복수형으로도 된다.
This is a very good wine.(종류)
Father puts on glasses.(제품)
The boys threw stones at the dog.(개체)
④ 추상명사의 보통명사화- 추상명사가 구체적인 종류나 행위의 실례를 나타내어 보통명사화 됨.
부정관사가 붙고, 복수형으로도 된다.
He has done me a kindness.(구체적인 행위)
She is a beauty.(사람)
2. 명사의 수
단수와 복수가 있다.
(1) 규칙변화
ⓐ 단수형 어미에 -s를 붙인다.

ⓑ 어미가 s,z,sh,x,ch로 끝나면 -es를 붙인다.
bus-buses box-boxes bench-benches dish-dishes
ⓒ [자음 + y]로 끝나는 말은 y를 i로 고치고 -es를 붙인다.

ⓓ [모음 + y]로 끝나는 말은 그대로 -s를 붙인다. 발음은 [z]

ⓔ [자음 + o]로 끝나는 말은 -es를 붙인다. 발음은 [z]

예외: piano-pianos, photo-photos, radio-radios
ⓕ 어미가 f, fe로 끝나면 v로 고치고 -es를 붙인다. 발음은 [vz]

(2) 불규칙 변화
ⓐ 모음을 변화시키는 경우

3. 명사의 격
'격'이란 명사 또는 대명사가 문장 중의 다른 어구에 대하여 가지는 문법적인 관계를 말한다.
(1) 주격의 용법-주어, 주격보어, 호격, 동격
The boy is very strong.
He is a good pianist.
Tom, study hard.
That man is Mr.Smith, our English teacher.
(2) 목적격의 용법- 동사와 전치사의 목적어, 목적보어, 목적어의 동격
He washed his hands.
Write in blue ink.
We call him Jim.
I met our teacher, Mr. Smith.
(3) 소유격의 용법-
① 사람과 동물을 나타내는 명사는 어미에 's를 붙여 소유격을 만들고, -s로 끝나는 복수명사는
Apostrophe(')만 붙인다.
the boy's bag the boys' books a girls' school
② 무생물인 경우에는 원칙적으로 of를 써서 소유격을 만든다.
the door of this classroom
③ 시간 거리 무게를 나타내는 경우는 's를 붙인다.
today's newspaper an hour's walk five miles' distance
④ 공동 소유와 개별 소유
He is Tom and Mary's uncle.(공동 소유)
These are Tom's and Mary's books(개별 소유)
⑤ 이중소유격- a(an), this, that, some, any등과 같이 소유격을 쓸 때에는 of를 사용하여
이중소유격을 만든다.
He is a friend of my brother's.
This dress of hers is not new.
Do you know any friends of his?
Look at that house of Mr. Kim's.
⑥ 소유격 뒤의 명사를 생략하는 경우
a)명사의 반복을 피하는 경우
This bag is my mother's(bag).
b)house, store 등이 소유격 뒤에 오면 보통 생략된다.
I will stay at my uncle's (house) during the winter vacation.
I bought some apples at Mr. Lee's (store).
My father went to the barber's (shop).
4. 명사의 성(性)
+-남성- man, father, boy, brother 등
+-여성- woman,mother, girl, sister 등
+-통성- parent, friend, child, reader 등
+-중성- tree, table, book, pencil 등
통성은 남녀의 구별은 있어도 그 구별을 나타내지 않는 것.
(1) 여성을 나타내기 위해 접미어가 붙는 것.

(2) 성을 나타내는 말이 붙는 것

(3) 전혀 다른 말을 사용하는 경우

제 2 장 관 사(Article)
관사 : 형용사의 일종으로 부정관사(a, an)와 정관사(the)가 있다.
a는 자음으로 시작되는 말 앞에, an은 모음으로 시작되는 말 앞에 쓴다.
ex) a pencil, a desk ; an umbrella, an animal
그러나 철자가 자음으로 시작되지만 모음으로 발음되는 낱말 앞에는 an을 쓴다.
ex) an hour, an honest boy
철자가 모음으로 시작되지만 자음으로 발음되면 a를 붙인다.
ex) a useful animal, a university
1. 不定冠詞의 용법
(1) 단수 보통명사 앞에서 막연히 [하나의] 뜻으로 쓰임- 해석 불필요
ex) He is an honest boy.
(2) one(하나)의 뜻- 해석 필요
ex) There are twelve months in a year.
Rome was not built in a day.
(3) any(어떤-라도, -라는 것)의 뜻-어떤 종류 전체를 대표하는데, 이 경우를 대표단수라 함
ex) A fox is a cunning animal.
(4) a certain(어떤)의 뜻
ex) An old man came to see you.
I met a Smith there.
(5) per(-에 대해, -마다)
ex) I write to my parents twice a month.
We work eight hours a day.
(6) the same(같은)의 뜻
ex) They are not of an age.
2. 定冠詞의 용법
정관사는 자음 앞에서는 [더], 모음 앞에서는 [디]로 발음
(1) 앞에 나온 명사가 뒤의 문장에 다시 나올 때
ex) He gave me a book. The book is very interesting.
(2) 서로 알고 있는 것을 가리킬 때
ex) Would you please open the window?
(3) 수식어구로 한정될 때
ex) The books on the desk are mine
(4) 세상에서 유일한 것
ex) the moon, the sun, The world is changing.
(5) 서수나 최상급의 앞
ex) He received the first prize in the speech contest.
She is the tallest girl in her class.
(6) 종족 전체를 대표할 경우
ex) The dog is a useful animal. [the + 단수 보통명사]
A dog is a useful animal. [a + 단수 보통명사]
Dogs are useful animal. [복수 보통명사]
cf. They are students of our school.(일부분의 학생들)
They are the students of our school.(전교생)
(7) 대명사의 소유격 대신에 the를 씀
ex) He caught me by the hand.
Uncle patted me on the shoulder.
(8) the + 형용사 = 복수 보통명사
ex) You must kind to the old. (old people)
(9) 慣用語句
ex) in the morning, in the park, in the sky, on the farm 등
3. 정관사와 고유명사
고유명사 앞에는 원칙적으로 관사를 붙일 수 없으나, 다음과 같은 경우는 예외로 붙인다.
(1) 관공서나 공공건물의 이름
ex) the White House, the National Museum
cf. 역명 공원명 호수명에는 일반적으로 the를 붙이지 않는다.
ex) Seoul Station, Namsan Park, Lake Como
Pagoda Park is in Seoul, you know.
(2) 강 바다 이름 앞에는 the를 붙인다.
ex) the Thames, the Pacific (Ocean)
(3) 산맥 반도 이름 앞에 the를 붙인다.
ex) the Rocky Mountain
the Malay Peninsula
(4) 신문 잡지 배 이름 등에 the를 붙인다.
ex) the New York Times
the Digest, the Mayflower(메이플라워 호)
(5) 나라 이름에 the를 붙이기도 한다.
ex) the United States of America, the Netherlands
4. 관사의 위치
(1) too, so, as, how 등의 부사가 오면 부정관사는 형용사 뒤에 놓인다.
too(so, as, how) + 형용사 + a(부정관사)
ex) This is too difficult a book for me to read.
We had so good a time.= We had a very good time.
Jack is as wise a boy as Tom (is). = Jack is as wise as Tom.
How Pretty a girl she is! = What a pretty girl she is!
(2) such, quite 다음에 부정관사가 온다.
such(quite) + a(부정관사) + 형용사
ex) You can't do the work in such a short time.
Mrs. Kim is quite a good cook.
(3) all, both 다음에 the가 온다.
ex) All the members went there.
Both the brothers were brave.
5. 관사의 생략
(1) 상대방을 부를 때(호격)
ex) Waiter, give me a glass of water.
(2) 자기 가족의 구성원을 가리킬 때
ex) Mother bought me this book.
(3) 관직 신분을 나타내는 말이 보어로 쓰일 때
ex) We elected him President.
(4) 건물 기구가 본래의 목적으로 쓰일 때
ex) go to school, go to church, go to bed
cf. I will go to the school to meet him.(수업하러 가는 것이 아니고, 다른 볼일로 가므로
the를 씀)
(5) 운동 식사 질병 이름 앞에는 the를 붙이지 않는다.
ex) I have breakfast at 7:30.
They are playing soccer.
He died of cancer.
cf. 악기 이름에는 the를 붙인다.
ex) Tom plays the violin well.
(6) 慣用句
ex) go by bus(= go in a bus), on foot, from morning till night
(7) 대구(對句)를 이룰 때
ex) Knife and fork, arm in arm
6. 관사의 생략과 반복
2개 또는 2개 이상의 명사가 and로 이어질 때, 뒤의 관사를 생략하는 경우와 반복하는 경우 그 뜻이
다르다.
ex) A teacher and poet was present at the meeting.(동일 인물)-교사이자 시인인 사람
A teacher and a poet were present at the meeting.(다른 인물)-한 교사와 하 시인
제 3 장 대 명 사(Pronoun)
[인칭대명사 지시대명사]
대명사 : 사람이나 사물 즉, 명사 대신에 쓰는 말
1. 대명사의 종류
(1) 인칭대명사- 말하는 자신이나 상대방, 그리고 제 3 자를 구별하여 나타내는 대명사
ex) I, you, she, we, they 등
myself, yourself 는 재귀대명사라고 함
(2) 지시대명사- 사람이나 사물을 가리키는 대명사
ex) this(these), that(those)
(3) 의문대명사- 의문을 나타내는 대명사
ex) who(누구), what(무엇), which(어느 것)
(4) 不定代名詞- 사람이나 사물을 막연히 가리키는 대명사
ex) one, none, any, some, each, every, other, others, another
(5) 관계대명사- 대명사와 접속사의 역할을 동시에 하는 대명사
ex) who, which, that, what 등
I think that he is honest. (접속사)
That is his father. (지시대명사)
Look at that boy. (지시형용사)
I know a boy who can speak French.(관계대명사)
Who is the lady over there? (의문대명사)

(2) 소유대명사(=소유격+명사)의 용법
ex) This book is mine. = This is my book.
명사 앞에 a, an, this, some, any, no 등과 소유격을 같이 쓸 때에는
'명사 + of + 소유대명사' 순서로 하여 이중소유격을 만든다.
ex) Do you know any friends of hers?
cf. it's는 it is의 준말이고, its는 소유격으로 '그것의'라는 뜻이다.
ex) What is that? It's a cat
Look at the cat. Its tail is short.
(3) we, you, they의 특별용법- 인칭대명사 중에서 we, you, they는 막연히 일반 사람을 나타내는
경우에도 쓴다.
ex) We have much rain in June.
You should obey your parents.
They say that he is honest.
(4) 재귀대명사의 용법
① 재귀적 용법- 주어의 동작이 자신에게 돌아가는 경우로, 동사 혹은 전치사의 목적어로 사용됨.
ex) He killed himself.
She looked at herself in the mirror.
② 강조적 용법- 주어, 목적어, 보어의 뜻을 강조하기 위해 쓰이는 재귀대명사로 생략이 가능.
ex) Tom did the work himself. = Tom himself did the work.(주어 강조)
I want to see your father himself. (목적어 강조)
It was Mary herself that met him in the park. (보어 강조)
③ 전치사와 재귀대명사의 관용어
ex) She went there by herself. (혼자서=alone)
You can't live for yourself. (혼자 힘으로)
The door opened of itself. (저절로)
3. it의 특별용법
(1) 날씨 시각 거리 계절 요일 등을 나타내는 it
ex) It is raining outside. (날씨)
It was very hot yesterday.
What time is it now? It is just ten o'clock.(시각)
How far is it from here to your school? (거리)
It is winter now. (계절)
What day (of the week)is it today? It is Monday today. (요일)
It is getting dark. (명암)
What's the date today? It is February 7(th) (today).
(2) 가주어와 가목적어로 쓰이는 it- 명사구나 명사절을 대신하여 형식상의 주어나 형식상의 목적어
로 쓰인다.
ex) It is easy to read this book.(it=to read this book)
It is true that he went there.
I think it easy to read this book.
I think it true that he told a lie.
(3) It is-that의 강조구문- (-은 바로 -이다)
ex) I saw Mary at the station yesterday. 의 강조구문
① 주어(I)를 강조할 경우
ex) It was I that saw Mary at the station yesterday.
② 목적어(Mary)를 강조할 경우
ex) It was Mary that I saw at the station yesterday.
③ 부사(구)at the station, yesterday)를 강조할 경우
ex) It was at the station that I saw Mary yesterday.
It was yesterday that I saw Mary at the station.
※ 강조부분이 사람인 경우에는 that 대신에 who나 whom을 쓸 수 있으며, 장소인 경우에는 where,
시간인 경우에는 when을 쓸 수도 있다.
ex) It was this afternoon when I met Miss Kim.
It was Miss Kim whom I met this afternoon.
It was in the park where I met Miss Kim.
It was Tom who broke the window yesterday.
4. 지시대명사- 사람이나 사물을 가리키거나 앞뒤의 어구 또는 내용을 나타내는데, 그 종류
에는 this(these)와 that(those)가 있다. 지시대명사 다음에 형용사가 오면
지시형용사가 된다.
ex) This is my pen.(지시대명사) This pen is mine.(지시형용사)
Is that your father? (지시대명사)
※ 지시대명사의 주요용법
(1) 명사의 반복을 피하기 위한 that(those)
ex) The winter of this year is colder than that of last year.
The houses of Seoul are more expensive than those of other cities.
(2) 앞에 나온 문장 전체를 받는 that
ex) I didn't say anything. That made him angry.
(3) those who=-하는 사람들(those=people)
ex) Heaven helps those who help themselves.
He went there this day week.(그는 지난주의 오늘 거기에 갔다.)
at this time (of) next year.(내년 이맘때)
제 4 장 대명사(Pronoun)
(부정대명사 의문대명사)
1. 부정대명사 - 사람이나 사물을 막연하게 나타내는 대명사
(1) one의 용법- one의 소유격은 one's이고, 목적격은 one이며, 복수는 ones이다.
① 일반사람을 나타내는 경우
ex) One should obey one's parents.
② 앞에 나온 명사의 반복을 피하기 위해서
ex) If you need a pen, I will lend you one. [a + 명사 = one]
cf. Do you have the book? Yes, I have it. [the + 명사 = it]
③ no one은 단수로, none은 복수로 취급
ex) No one knows her name.
None of them know her name.
(2) some과 any의 용법- some은 긍정문에, any는 의문문 부정문 조건문(if절)에 쓰이는 것이 원칙
ex) Do you have any pencil?
Yes, I have some. No, I don't have any.
If you have any money, lend me some.
① some 다음에 단수명사가 오면 [어떤]의 뜻이 된다.
ex) I saw the flower in some house.
② 권유하거나 긍정의 대답을 예상할 때에는 의문문에 some을 쓸 수 있다.
ex) Will you have some milk? (=Please have some milk.)
③ any가 긍정문에 쓰이면 [어떤 -라도]의 뜻이 된다.
ex) Any child can do a thing like that.
④ any는 부정문에서 주어로 쓸 수없다.
ex) Any of them can not do it.( )
None of them can do it.(0)
(3) other, others, another의 용법
① 둘 중의 하나는 one이고 나머지 하나는 the other이다.
ex) I have two cats; one is black and the other is white.
② 막연한 나머지는 others로, 지정된 나머지는 the others로 나타낸다.
ex) Some boys like baseball, and others do not like it.
Four of them liked the idea; the others did not.
③ 단독으로 쓰인 others는 other people의 뜻
ex) He likes to work for others.
④ 한 개의 것을 말한 다음에 [다른 한 개의 것]을 말할 때에는 another를 쓴다.
ex) I don't like this cap. Show me another.
(4) each와 every의 용법- 단수 취급
ex) Each of them has his own book.
Every member was present at the meeting.
※ each other(둘이서 서로), one another(셋 이상 서로)는 엄격히 구별되지 않고 혼용된다.
(5) all과 both의 용법- all은 셋 이상인 경우, both는 둘인 경우에 쓰며 복수취급. all이 단수가
될 때도 있다.
ex) All of them are middle school students.
All is silent. [만물이 고요하다]
Both (of) the sisters are very pretty.
(6) 부분부정과 전체부정- every, all, both와 not를 같이 쓰면 부분부정이 된다.
ex) They don't know everything.[부분부정]
They don't know anything. [전체부정]
I did not meet all of them.(=I met only some of them)
I did not meet any of them.
I don't know both of them.
I don't know either of them.

(1) who의 용법- 사람의 이름이나 가족관계를 물어볼 때 사용. 격변화 있음.
ex) Who is he? He is Mr. Baker.
Who is the gentlmen? He is my uncle.
Whose book is this?=Whose is this book?
Who(m) do you like? 문법적으로 Whom이지만 회화체에서는 주격이 문장 앞에 오는
경향이 강하기 때문에 Who를 많이 쓴다.
(2) which의 용법- 동물이나 사물에 쓰인다.
ex) Which is faster, a bus or a train.
Who (or Which) is older, you or she?
(3) what의 용법- 사람에 쓰이 경우 직업이나 신분을 물을 때 쓰임.
ex) What is she? (=What does she do?) She is a nurse.
(4) 의문대명사의 위치
① 의문대명사가 전치사의 목적어일 경우, 그 전치사는 문자의 맨 앞이나 맨 끝에 온다.
ex) Who(m) are you looking at? = At whom are you looking?
② 간접의문문과 의문대명사
ex) Who is the man?
Do you know who the man is?
Who is he?
Who do you think he is?
(5) 의문형용사
ex) What flower is that? = What kind of flower is that?
Whose book is this? = Whose is this book?
Which season do you like best? I like spring best.
(6) 의문대명사와 조동사- 의문대명사가 주어이면 그 앞에 조동사를 쓰지 않는다.
ex) Who broke the window? (0)
Did who break the window? ( )

제 5 장 관계대명사(Relative Pronoun)
1. 관계대명사의 종류와 용법
관계대명사는 글과 글을 잇는 접속사의 구실과 대명사의 구실을 겸하는 대명사이다. 관계대명사에는
who, which, that, what 등이 있는데, 선행사가 사람을 가리키는가 사물을 가리키는가에 따라 그 중에
서 어느 것을 쓰느냐가 결정된다.

(1) who, whose, whom의 용법- 선행사가 일반적으로 사람일 경우. who와 whom은 that로 대신 쓸 수 있
다.
ex) That is the boy. He likes to play tennis. (주격)
→ That is the boy who(or that)likes to play tennis.
The man is my uncle. He is working in the garden.
→ The man who is working in the garden is my uncle.
I know a girl. Her name is Judy. (소유격)
→ I know a girl whose name is Judy.
This is the boy. I met him in the park yesterday. (목적격)
→ This is the boy whom I met in the park yesterday.
(2) which, whose(of which), which의 용법
ex) The books are his. They are on the desk.
→ The books which(or that) are on the desk are his.
Look at the book. Its cover is red.
→ Look at the book whose cover is red.
or Look at the book of which the cover is red.
or Look at the book the cover of which is red.
This is the book. She gave it to me yesterday.
→ This is the book which she gave me yesterday.
(3) 관계대명사 that만 쓰는 경우- 선행사가 [사람+동물], [사람+사물]로 되어 있거나, 선행사 앞에
형용사의 최상급, 서수, the only, the very, all, no, the same, 의문대명사 등이
올 때 관계대명사 that를 쓴다. that에는 소유격이 없으며, 또 전치사를 그 앞에 쓸 수
없다.
ex) Look at the boy and his dog that are running here.
She is the prettiest lady that I have ever seen.
Jack is the first boy that solved this problem.
He is the only poet that I know well.
She is the very girl that I wanted to see.
This is all the money that he has.
There is no man that doesn't love his own country.
I use the same books that my sister used.

(4) what의 용법- 관계대명사 what는 선행사를 포함하고 있으며, 해석은 [-하는 것]으로 한다. what에
는 소유격이 없다.
ex) We love what is true. [what=the thing that(or which)]

2. 관계대명사의 두 가지 용법
관계대명사 앞에 comma(,)가 있는 경우와 없는 경우
(1) 제한적 용법(한정적 용법)- 관계대명사 앞에 comma(,)가 없는 경우로, 해석은 관계대명사 뒷
부분을 먼저 한다.
ex) He had two sons who became officers. (아들은 둘 이상)
(2) 계속적 용법(연속적 용법)- 관계대명사 앞에 comma(,)가 있는 경우. 해석은 앞에서부터 차례대
로 한다.
ex) He had two sons, who became officers. (아들은 둘뿐)
(3) 계속적 용법의 관계대명사는 내용에 따라 관계대명사를 [and, but, for, though + 대명사]로
바꾸어 쓸 수 있다.
ex) I visited Mary, who gave me this book.
→ I visited Mary, and she gave me this book.
He went for the book, which was not in the library.
→ He went for the book, but it was not in the library.
I don't like the boy, who tells a lie.
→ I don't like the boy, for he tells a lie.
I don't know the girl, who lives near my house.
→ I don't know the girl, though she lives near my house.
※ 관계대명사 what와 that에는 계속적 용법이 없다.
ex) I cannot understand what he says. (맞음)
I cannot understand, what he says. (틀림)
He has a horse, which runs very fast. (맞음)
He has a horse which runs very fast. (맞음)
He has a horse, that runs very fast. (틀림)
3. 관계대명사의 주의할 용법
(1) 관계대명사의 생략- 제한적 용법에서 관계대명사의 목적격은 생략할 수 있다.
ex) This is the farmer (whom or that) I met in the field.
The movie (which or that) I saw yesterday was interesting.
※ [주격 관계대명사 + be동사]가 동시에 생략될 수 있다.
ex) The watch (which is) on the table is hers.
Look at the boy (who is) sleeping under the tree.
This is the only book (that was)written by him.
(2) 관계대명사와 전치사- 관계대명사가 전치사의 목적어일 때, 전치사를 관계대명사 앞에 두어도
좋고, 전치사를 문장의 맨 뒤에 두어도 좋다.
ex) That is the village. He lives in it.
That is the village which he lives in.
or That is the village in which he lives.
or That is the village he lives in.
(3) 복합관계대명사- 관계대명사에 -ever가 붙은 형식으로 선행사가 없다.
ex) Whoever may come here, you must be kind to him.
I will give you whatever book you want to read.
= I will give you any book that you want to read.
(4) 의사관계대명사- 접속사 as는 선행사 앞에 such, the same이 있을 때 관계대명사로 쓰인다.
ex) This is the same watch as I lost. [같은 종류]
This is the same watch that I lost. [동일 물건]
■ 선행사에 수식어가 있으면 관계대명사와 선행사가 떨어진다.
ex) Do you know the boy with a ball who is standing at the gate?
cf. Do you know the boy with a ball which is very new?
제 6 장 의문부사 관계부사
의문부사 : 문장의 맨 앞에서 의문문을 유도하거나 간접의문문을 만들 때 쓰인다.
where, when, how, why가 있다.
1. 의문부사의 용법
(1) where의 용법- [어디에]라고 장소를 물을 경우에 쓰임
ex) Where do you eat lunch?
(2) when의 용법- [언제]라고 시간을 물을 때 쓰임.
ex) When did you meet him?
I met him the day before yesterday.
(3) how의 용법- [얼마나, 어떻게] 등 정도나 방법을 물을 때 쓰임.
ex) How many books do you have?
I have about two hundred books.
How old is your father? He is forty-five years old.
How tall are you? I am five feet three inches tall.
How much money do you have? I have one thousand won.
How far is it from here to your school?
How long does it take from here to the station?
How do they go to church? They go to church by bus.
How much is this book? = What is the price of this book?
(4) why의 용법- [왜]라고 이유를 물어볼 때 쓰임.
ex) Why were you absent from school yesterday?
Because I had a cold.
■ 간접의문문의 어순- 의문사 다음에 [주어 + 동사]
ex) +-Where is his father? Do you know?
+-Do you know where his father is?
+-When did he go there? Do you know?
+-Do you know when he went there? [did + go → went]
+-How old am I? Do you think?
+-How old do you think I am?
2. 관계부사의 용법
관계부사 : 두 개의 글을 결합시키는 접속사와 부사의 구실을 하는데, where, when, why, how가
있다. 관계부사는 선행사를 수식하는 형용사절을 이끌며, [전치사+관계대명사(which)]로
바꾸어 쓸 수 있다.

(1) where의 용법- 선행사가 [장소]일 때

This is the house she lives in. [관계대명사의 생략]
(2) when의 용법- 선행사가 [시간]일 때
ex) I don't remember the day. Mr. kim left Seoul on the day.
I don't remember the day when Mr. Kim left Seoul.
I don't remember the day on which Mr. Kim left Seoul.
(3) why의 용법- 선행사가 [이유]일 때
ex) Do you know the reason? He didn't come for the reason.
Do you know the reason why he didn't come?
Do you know the reason for which he didn't come?
(4) how의 용법- 선행사가 the way인 경우. the way 혹은 how만 쓰든지, the way that 혹은
the way in which를 쓴다.
ex) Tell me the way. You solved the problem in the way.
Tell me the way you solved the problem.
Tell me how you solved the problem.
Tell me the way that you solved the problem.
Tell me the way in which you solved the problem.
3. 관계부사의 주의할 용법
(1) 제한적 용법- 관계부사 앞에 comma(,)가 없는 경우
ex) Sunday is the day when we go to church.
(2) 계속적 용법- 관계부사 앞에 comma(,)가 있는 경우로서, [접속사+부사]로 바꾸어 쓸 수 있다.
why와 how는 계속적 용법에 쓰이지 않는다.
ex) We went to Cheju Island, where we stayed for a week.
= We went to Cheju Island, and we stayed there for a week.
I went to Pusan yesterday, when I met a friend of mine.
(3) 관계부사의 선행사 생략
ex) This is (the reason) why he came here.
That is (the place) where we play in the afternoon.
(4) 복합관계부사- wherever, whenever, however의 형태를 위하며, 선행사를 포함하고 있다.
ex) He gets lost wherever he goes.
= He gets lost at any place where he goes.
He is busy whenever I call on him.
However hard you may study, you must always be careful about your health.
※ that가 관계부사의 대용을 할 때가 있다.
ex) I don't remember the day that he left Seoul. (=when)
This is the reason that I did so. (=why)

1. 형용사의 종류
(1) 대명형용사- 대명사가 명사를 수식하는 형용사의 역할을 하는것.
① This pencil is different from that one. [지시형용사]
② What school do you want to go to? [의문형용사]
③ Any child can do that. [부정형용사←부정대명사]
(2) 수량형용사- 수량을 표시.
+--기수 : one, two, three, four.......
① 수사-+--서수 : first, second, third, fourth......
+--배수 : half, twice, three times(thrice)......
② 부정수량형용사 : some, any, few, little, many, much......
(3) 성상형용사- 사물의 성질 종류 상태를 나타내는 형용사
① 본래의 형용사로 된 것 : a wise boy, a pretty doll
② 물질명사에서 온 것 : a silver spoon, a g |
